UNICOM

Abstract
The UNICOM is a communicator for the non-vocal severely motor impaired which is based upon a microprocessor-controlled video display and printer. Its fundamental concept is that it is a single device which can be adapted by simple plugin man/machine interfaces to operate in any of several control strategies: scanning, encoding, or direct selection. Input interface devices, ranging from a single switch to a full keyboard, are selected according to the residual motor capabilities of the user. The input device determines the control strategy.
