Abstract
To the Editor: In 1977 the Journal published an article1 that credited a recently enacted gun-control law with a decline in the number of firearm-related homicides in Massachusetts. Not discussed was a concomitant increase in the number of firearm-related suicides. In 1983 another article2 blamed an increase in the suicide rate in younger Americans on the availability of firearms. Not discussed was a concomitant decrease in the suicide rate among older Americans.
