Abstract
Alloploids synthesized from Carthamus lanatus (n = 22) and C. leucocaulos (n = 10) were very similar to C. baeticus (n = 32). It is assumed that C. baeticus had its origins in the eastern Mediterranean, where the first two species overlap. Similarly alloploids developed from hybrids of C. lanatus and C. glaucus ssp. glaucus (I) (n = 10) were similar to C. turkestanicus (n = 32). The place of origin is put in Transcaucasia. The following genomic formulas were assigned: C. glaucus ssp. glaucus (I) (and all other 10-chromosome species, except C. leucocaulos) AA; C. leucocaulos A2A2; C. tinctorius and other 12-chromosome species with yellow flowers (this excludes C. nitidus) BB; C. lanatus A1A1B1B1; C. baeticus A1A1B1B1A2A2, and C. turkestanicus A1A1B1B1AA.Keywords
