Homoimmune Uveitis in the Guinea Pig

Abstract
Introduction Homoimmune uveitis in the guinea pig was described in previous communications.1,2 The histopathologic changes in the eyes of Experiments I-IV will be discussed with respect to their morphology and severity, and the microscopic changes in other tissues will be described. The clinical and histologic findings also will be correlated. Method The guinea pigs were killed 1 week after the last immunization period. Autopsies were performed, and the eyes, lungs, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, brain, inguinal lymph nodes, and injection site removed. All organs were fixed in 10% formalin for 48 hours, and prepared for paraffin embedding. One horizontal calotte was removed from the eyes. After paraffin embedding, 10μ serial sections were mounted on slides from 4 or 5 levels, each approximately 300μ apart. All slides were stained with hematoxylin and eosin.
