Abstract
Using surface near-edge x-ray-absorption spectroscopy, we have observed a remarkable ordering of doped and undoped poly(3-methylthiophene) thin films several layers thick electrochemically deposited on a platinum surface. We have also been able to record changes in the unoccupied antibonding band between the doped and the undoped states which confirms the narrowing of the band gap and the appearance of a metalliclike behavior in this organic conducting polymer.
