Pancreatic Encephalopathy

Abstract
A series of 8 cases is described characterized by anxiety, agitation, clouding of consciousness, muscular rigidities and speech disturbances. The neuropathological lesion consisted in capillary necrosis with petechial hemorrhages and peri-vascular gliosis. In all patients, circumscribed or diffuse areas of glandular or fat tissue necrosis of the pancreatic gland could be observed with evidence of chronic interstitial pancreatitis. It is believed that the condition described herein represents a specific syndrome of pancreatic encephalopathy.
