Abstract
The lifesaving capabilities of intravenous hyperalimentation have been confirmed in many clinical situations-intestinal, renal, and hepatic disease; severe burns and trauma; cancer; congenital malformations; prematurity. This experience is described, as are the requirements for successful application: a highly trained team, the precautions obligatory with any surgical procedure, and strong laboratory support.
