Abstract
Brief hospitalization may be a necessary intervention for the adolescent who is in emotional crisis. Although this separation may be helpful, the student's orientation should remain focused on the mainstream educational environment. Students have many apprehensions about their return to mainstream education, and careful planning should be done to effect the supportive reentry. Experience indicates that psychiatric centers can extend their treatment potential by the careful selection of a mainstream case manager, who becomes an integral part of the treatment team. Keywords
