Abstract
The vitamin requirements were determined for strains of Calvatia: C. gigantea 1019B, 1018F, and 766; and C. fragilis 1020. Aqueous extracts of all 4 strains retarded the growth of Crocker Mouse Sarcoma 180 implanted in mice. The utilization of nutrients was determined by the growth response of the organisms based on the averaged dry weights of mycelium. Each strain was totally heterotrophic with respect to thiamine, and autotrophic with respect to biotin, pyridoxine and inositol. A partial deficiency was established for an unidentified growth factor present in Bacto-peptone and Bacto-yeast extract. No significant difference was obtained when thiamine and thiamine-pyrophosphate were compared. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
