Abstract
To the Editor: A number of proposals have been made to initiate large-scale screening of populations at risk of sickling. Some such programs have already been initiated. In Massachusetts, for example, a law has recently been passed that states, in part, that "Every child, which the commissioner of public health, by rule or regulation, may determine is susceptible to the disease known as sickle cell trait or sickle cell anemia, shall be required to have a blood test to determine whether or not he has such disease before being admitted to a public school, or in the first year of . . .
