Molecular Diversity and Function of G Proteins and Calcium Channels1

Abstract
General features of signal transduction by G proteins and structural properties of G-protein-modulated calcium channels are described. Recent results on roles of βγ dimers in signal transduction, on the kinetic properties of Giα subunits and structural diversity of G0α subunits are discussed, as are the background and current state of our knowledge of the modulation of calcium channels by G proteins.
