Abstract
Forty‐six episodes of major neuropsychiatric manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus occurring in 35 patients over a ten‐year period were reviewed. The frequency of central nervous system SLF was lower than that reported from overseas referral centres. Glucocorticosteroid treatment did not precipitate psychiatric problems in this group. Whilst neuropsychiatric recovery was the rule, such features indicated a subgroup of SLE with high short‐term mortality. Keywords
