Abstract
Largely as a response to the growing threat of civil liability, there is a growing movement toward the training of managers and servers in bars, restaurants and other licensed establishments in the responsible service of alcohol. This paper describes trends in the civil liabilities of alcohol providers, provides a brief history of server training in North America, and reviews recent evaluation studies on the impact of these training programs. The paper concludes with a discussion of the problems and prospects for server intervention programs in the future. Keywords
