Abstract
Inhibition of volatile fatty acid production and cellulose digestion by microorganisms of rumen fluid occurred at concentrations above 9.4 ✕ 10‐5 M perloline. Concentrations of 9.4 ✕ 10‐5 M perloline and less also inhibited cellulose digestion but stimulated volatile fatty acid production. Growth of two anaerobic cellulolytic bacteria was increased by 10‐4 M perloline, whereas growth of all the cellulolytic bacteria was completely inhibited at 10‐3 M. At perloline concentrations above 1.13 ✕ 10‐3 M rumen protozoa died rapidly, whereas 2.71 ✕ 10‐4 M had no noticeable influence on the viability of protozoa. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
