Choosing the most desirable drug for the outpatient with emotional problems is made difficult by the vagueness of psychiatric terminology and the diffuse nature of the symptoms for which psychoactive drugs are recommended. These difficulties are further enhanced by the various forms in which the same product is available. However, the drug of choice is a most pertinent compound with the fewest side effects; the phenothiazine derivatives are effective and safe for use in the emotionally disturbed patient.
