Abstract
Soviet higher schools (VUZy) and specialized secondary schools (tekhnikums) that supply manpower to Soviet aerospace research, development, and production (RD&P) facilities are identified in the paper. The curricula, activities, and locations of these schools are discussed, and are compared to the locations and specializations of Soviet aerospace RD&P facilities. The strong spatial correlation and complementarity of programs between schools and facilities, together with other evidence provided, implies that aerospace graduates are placed predominantly at co-located aerospace facilities. Other graduate placements seem to occur more selectively on both an interregional and hierarchical basis. Keywords
