Abstract
The metabolism of glucose and organic acids was studied in the early phases of germination of Phaseolus mungo seeds. During the first 5–6 h of imbibition, ethanol fermentation actively occurred and in the following stage the TCA cycle seemed to be markedly activated. CO2 fixation seemed to be low, at least in the early stage of germination. Aspartic acid was converted actively into malic acid. This seemed to be a cause of the active synthesis of malic acid observed. Keywords
