THE VIABILITY OF VARIOUS SPECIES OF BACTERIA IN AQUEOUS SUSPENSIONS

Abstract
Young agar cultures of Bacillus cereus, B. megatherium and Eryihrobacillus prodigiosus twice centrifuged and resuspended in distilled water, NaCl, Ringer-Locke or sugar solutions died off almost immediately; similar treatment had little effect on Bacterium coli. Broth, dilute peptone, beef extract or omission of centrifuging prevented material reduction in numbers.
