Abstract
Cytokines and growth factors act as intercellular signalling molecules which control cellular functions during development and in response to injury or infection. The epidermal growth factor (EGF) family is an expanding group of structurally related polypeptides that regulate cell proliferation, migration and differentiation, via tyrosine kinase receptors on target cells. This chapter reviews recent developments in the characterization of EGF family members and their receptors. European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology 1995, 7:914–922
