A British PR election: Testing STV with London's voters

Abstract
’When voters are given greater electoral choice, by and large they use it.‘ That is the message from an exit poll at the European Parliament elections conducted by MORI for the Electoral Reform Society. London's Euro‐constituencies were grouped together and voters were asked to vote using the single transferable vote (STV) PR system — the same system as used to elect MEPs in Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. The authors of the following article were invited to analyse the results of the poll. The experiment was made possible by a generous grant from the Andrew Wainwright Trust. A summary of authors’ preliminary findings is set out below.
