Abstract
The effect of the presence of ectoparasitic isopods (Livoneca californica) on the viability of the host was studied under conditions of asphyxia and of suddenly lowered salinity, using Fundulus parvipinnis as the host fish. A marked deleterious effect on the resistance of the host was found, although this effect was not apparent under ordinary environmental conditions. The results indicate that this effect varies as to magnitude in the presence of different secondary adverse factors.
