Abstract
Although little known or used in present-day psychology, the Chapin Social Insight Test appears to be a potentially valuable psychometric tool. It is addressed to a capacity of fundamental importance in interpersonal life, and its conceptual rationale is persuasive. A series of validational studies was therefore undertaken. In 10 male and 4 female samples (total N = 1,330) the Chapin scale was found to correlate significantly with various indices of social sensitivity and social acuity and to identify individuals who impress others as insightful, perceptive, imaginative, and resourceful. The scale was also found to have predictive implications for creative originality and academic persistence or progress.
