Abstract
THE purpose of this article is to present an overview of the adrenal gland from the surgeon's standpoint, with an emphasis on diagnosis and treatment. There will be no attempt to review completely the literature on each subject to be discussed, but rather a selective critique of available information will be made. Most of the papers to be discussed have been published during the last few years. Each of the most common conditions in which adrenal surgery is carried out will be discussed separately because the surgical approach varies considerably depending upon the type of abnormality present.
