The orotron–A free-electron laser using the Smith-Purcell effect

Abstract
A theory of operation of the orotron is described in which the electromagnetic field present in the open resonator of the device bunches the electron beam; this bunching leads to coherent oscillation. Theoretical results at 75 GHz are discussed.Keywords
