Positive differential heterophile antibody test. Persistence in a symptomatic patient

Abstract

A patient who had documented mononucleosis in June 1971 has been persistently symptomatic since that time, with easy fatigability and weight loss. He has also had a positive differential heterophile antibody test for mononucleosis for 14 mo. Although no evidence for active Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection was discovered, the possibility of a chronic EBV infection is discussed.
