Abstract
The theory of column elution chromatography is analyzed with reference to the role of the partition coefficient, and methods for the prediction of partition coefficients in liquid-liquid systems are reviewed. The characterization of liquid-liquid systems for column chromatography is discussed. The equilibrium curve of the ternary system water, ethanol and 2,2,4-trimethyl-pentane and the mutual solubility of thirteen binary systems is given. Selectivity factors of the dimethyl-phenol isomers in the binary system, 1,2,3-Tris(2-cyanothoxy)propane and 2,2,4-trimethyl-pentane have been determined.
