Abstract
Repeated pregnandiol studies in a case of pseudo-hermaphrodism revealed a persistently high level of pregnandiol glucuronidate excretion in the urine at varying periods. The avg. excretion without therapy was 25.5 mg. per 24-hr. specimen, with therapy 20.7 mg. per hr. specimen. This elevated excretion was apparently not related to the therapy previously administered, nor to a possible early pregnancy. The elevated pregnandiol excretion was probably an indication of excessive andro-genic activity of the adrenal cortex of the patient herein reported. Pregnandiol glucuronidate detns. in the presence of amenorrhea may be of diagnostic significance; high excretions of pregnandiol glucuronidate in the absence of pregnancy may suggest a diagnosis of a masculinizing tumor or a hyperplasia of the adrenal glands. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
