This report is concerned with further investigations into the Digital Electro-Optic Deflector. Design specifications related to aperture, spot size, spot position and background light (noise) are calculated as functions of the number of deflection stages for various crystal materials. From the calculations, the specifications of the birefringent and electro-optic crystals and their tolerances were evaluated for a two-dimensional deflector of 256 x 256 positions. The relation between the address of an output position and the input signal to the switches is reported; and the distribution of noise, i.e., the light intensity in unswitched positions is described. Further investigations refer to the frequency response and the electrode problem of the electro-optic crystals. Two electronic circuits which appear to be suited for high speed, low power switching of the light deflector are discussed.
