Abstract
TEN years ago Clute1 discussed the problems presented by the diagnosis and treatment of cancer of the pancreas. In the intervening decade surgical treatment has progressed remarkably,2 3 4 but diagnosis is still lagging, partly owing to the variability of pancreatic symptoms, the inaccessibility of the pancreas to examination, the difficulty of x-ray study of this gland and the unavailability of an easy and reliable function test. On the other hand, failure to recognize the symptoms that have been repeatedly emphasized in the literature of the last ten years and to institute such tests as have been made available are also responsible . . .
