Abstract
Brucellosis exists worldwide. Experimental studies have evaluated the relative contribution played by immune-cell mechanisms and humoral antibodies in host resistance to infection. Automated blood culture systems, polymerase chain reaction and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, have proved successful as new laboratory based diagnostic methods. A combination of doxycycline and aminoglycosides seems to be the best current treatment for human brucellosis. Keywords
