Viral Placentitis in Congenital Cytomegalovirus Infection

Abstract
Monif, Gilles R. G., ancl Dische, Renate M.: Viral placentitis in congenital cytomegalovirus infection. Am. J. Clin. Pathol. 58: 445–449, 1972. Two cases of viral placentitis due to cytomegalovirus infection are described. Special emphasis is given to the morphologic alterations, specifically plasmacytic infiltration, persistence of Hofbauer cells, and edematous congested villi with focal fibrosis, independent of the intranuclear inclusion bodies which might aid in increasing the index of suspicion and initiating appropriate studies.
