A Serum-Film Technic for Bone-Marrow Smears

Abstract
A chemically clean slide was covered with a thin film of serum by using a glass spreader. A drop of marrow suspension (bone-marrow in autogenous serum, about 1 to 20 dilution) was placed upon this film and spread by blowing gently on it until a central area of about 2 cm in diameter became dry. The peripheral rim of the smear was then wiped off and the slide stained. A statistical analysis showed that the variation in size of cells did not influence their distribution within the area and that improved cell morphology with fewer damaged cells favored quantitative studies.
