Abstract
Based on some present and past features of water resources in developed countries, some future trends towards the development of water sciences are outlined. The reduction of specific consumption use, the amelioration of water quality, and the improvement of flood control measures should dictate innovations in water resources technology. Decision analysis will also play a larger role in water resources analysis and planning than at present. These trends should also introduce new perspectives in the development of hydrological sciences, so indicating ways to overcome the present crisis. Keywords
