The Saturation Curve in Cylindrical and Spherical Ionization Chambers

Abstract
Uniformly irradiated ionization chambers bounded by coaxial cylinders and concentric spheres were studied. The effects of recombination and space charge, but not diffusion, were considered. Approximate expressions were derived for the general saturation curves, valid at degrees of saturation i/is < 0.6. Exact numerical results in the range 0.25< i/is< 0.6 were obtained for air-filled chambers using a computer and confirm the validity of these expressions. Experimental work with practical chambers has shown good agreement with theory when values of mobilities and recombination coefficient were used which are not far from those commonly accepted for air.
