Abstract
Thirty-eight alcoholic patients were treated for a variety of complaints with a combination of meproba-mate and promazine. The medication was found to be effective in part because of its symbolic significance to these patients. A number of factors involved in placebo effect were delimited. It was concluded that for alcoholics the use of medication in conjunction with psychotherapy presents unique problems. Keywords
