Abstract
The Fourier-series representation is shown to give an accurate representation of the band structure of transition metals in a restricted energy interval, e.g., near the Fermi energy. A 19-term fit to the fifth and sixth bands in fcc Pt is used to compute the de Haas-van Alphen areas and effective masses of all orbits expected for the Fermi surfaces associated with these bands. Keywords
