Abstract
The intricate polarization properties of Doppler-enhanced self-diffraction in linearly birefringent and optically active materials, such as bismuth silicon oxide crystals, are utilized to achieve real-time photorefractive spatial light modulation with contrast selection capability. The contrast reversal is explained in terms of the spatial modulation of the birefringence caused by an incoherent erasure beam. Keywords
