Abstract
Pulses occurring in an alternating current discharge through chlorine in an all-glass ozonizer have been analysed electronically. The positive and the negative pulses have been isolated by using a clipper and an invertor circuit. The total charge carried by the pulses has been computed and its variation with applied voltage in dark and under visible light has been found to be linear. A mechanism for the pulse formation and the linear variation of charge with applied voltage has been suggested. It is shown that the strange occurrence of the negative Joshi effect is due to the photo-emission of electrons from the electrode surfaces. Keywords
