Abstract
The combined concentrations of the catechol compounds in heart, brain, spleen, kidney, liver, diaphragm and leg muscles of rats have been estimated by the ethylenediamine method for periods of 1 to 3.5 years; there were large and significant seasonal changes in each tissue; concentrations were highest in winter and summer. Besides epinephrine and norepinephrine, a 3d catecholamine is present in brain and liver, and sometimes in spleen, heart, kidneys and diaphragm; concentrations of all 3 catechol amines probably Vary seasonally. Adrenalectomy reduced or abolished seasonal changes in heart, but not those in brain. Changes in heart were unaffected by removal of the adrenal medulla; concentrations of catechol compounds in kidney were reduced.
