Abstract
A pulsed x‐ray generator was constructed which makes use of a cold cathode consisting of a photocathode and the dynode assembly from a photomulitplier tube. The device is switched by a light source incident on the photocathode. Tests indicate that the output intensity of the x‐ray pulse follows in time the intensity of the light pulse for pulse widths as short as a few tens of nanoseconds. Keywords
