An Elution Test for the Visualization of Hemoglobin S in Blood Smears

Abstract
Hemoglobin S in the reduced state has a lower solubility in concentrated buffer solutions than hemoglobin A. Hemoglobin A is washed out under these conditions from cells on blood films, while hemoglobin S is retained and can be stained with eosin.
