Abstract
Antigenically potent rabies vaccines as detd. by the mouse test can be prepd. by simultaneously inactivating the rabies virus and extracting lipids of the brain tissue. In these vaccines about 25% of the dry wt. and 41% of the lipids have been removed. The procedure consists of drying an infected brain tissue suspension from the frozen state and extracting the residue in twice the original volume of benzene at 56[degree]C for 12 hrs. The insoluble residue is suspended in 1 volume of benzene, filtered, and then extracted twice with ethyl ether. The ether is removed by suction. The residue is placed in a vacuum jar for 30 min. to remove the ether. The vaccine is then made by suspending the dried residue in saline or dist. water and homogenizing. Keywords
