Abstract
Sensitivity of coleoptile sections of some Italian wheats to auxinlike substances and abscisic acid. From the coleoptile segment «straight-growth test» for auxins and abscisic acid assay, Italian cultivar of wheat « Funo » proved to be more sensitive as compared with nine other Italian cultivars and with the American « Genesee ». Its coleoptiles are the most sensitive and till a 10−10M concentration have reacted to the IAA and ABA, whilst those of « Genesee » cultivar revealed significant growth responses only up to 10−8M concentration. Moreover, cv. « Funo » has shown a very marked sensitivity also to different auxin-like substances so that it is possible to plot both for IAA and ABA a semiiperbolic, caracteristic curve in relation to the different concentrations of each substance. Fortunatly the cv. « Funo » has also revealed a large level of specificity, showing in fact the lack of reaction of its coleoptiles to the highest concentration of GA3 and Kinetin.
