Evaluation of a Conceptual Distribution Automation System

Abstract
A methodology used to evaluate technical and economic feasibility of selected distritution automation functions, based on a conceptual implementation on a small 13.2 kV distribution system, is presented. Distribution substation, feeder, and user related control and monitoring functions were chosen. The methodology used involves comoarison of non-automated and automated distribution system expansion plans to identify most beneficial functions. The specific economic evaluation results, incluiding the benefit/cost ratios of the functions, are expected to form the basis for a future paper.
