Abstract
The lifetime of the triplet state of aromatic molecules increases when deuterons are substituted for its protons. For naphthalene, our experiments and others show that the decay rate is linear with the number of protons and independent of the position of substitution. This result is shown to follow from Lin's theory of nonradiative decay of excited states. Keywords
