Abstract
The action of butylsympatol, administered to men in doses of 1-2 mg./kg. intramusc. or per os or to unanesthetized dogs with exteriorized carotid looks in doses of 0.3 mg./kg., consists in a doubled pulse pressure, in a 3-5-fold increase of the minute volume and in a decrease of the peripheral vascular resistance to 50% of the original value. This was shown in does, the blood pressures of which were increased by constant infusions of epinephrine, sympatol, hypophosin and pervitin. In all cases the hypertonia decreased significantly after the admn. of butylsympatol. In consequence of these exptl. results the clinical indications for butylsympatol are hypertonia and peripheral angiospastic disturbances. In order to effect a continual decrease of the blood pressure it may be given without danger in doses of 25-50 mg. per os every 2 hrs.
