Abstract
Four cases are presented in which lymphatic obstruction is thought to play a role in the development of urinary tract disease. Spontaneous rupture of the kidney pelvis occurred in 2 cases where ureteral obstruction was coupled with renal lymphatic obstruction. The authors feel that the renal lymphatics provide a safety valve for the kidney when urine outflow via customary ureteral drainage is blocked. When renal lymphatics are obstructed also, the kidney is left as a closed compartment and rupture or fulminating urosepsis can occur. One case of peripelvic lymphatic cyst is presented and the pathology in this instance is explained on the basis of partial lymphatic obstruction and consequent lymphectasia. One case of chyluria is presented which demonstrates the lymphatico-urinary fistulization in both an antegrade and retrograde manner. Keywords
