Abstract
The eclipse of 1954 June 30 was successfully observed from an open aircraft at an altitude of 30 000 ft in excellent sky conditions. Absolute values of the coronal brightness to a distance of 13°.5 from the Sun and the coronal polarization to a distance of 5° are given, together with the sky brightness and polarization and their variation with altitude. The importance of the sky polarization is discussed. The data are related to those for the zodiacal light.
