Abstract
Drug intolerance was ascertained in a retrospective study of 1, 744 patients who were treated with various combinations and dosages of streptomycin PAS, and isoniazid. Over-all drug intolerance rates were as follows: all drugs, 12. 2%; streptomycin, 10. 3%; PAS, 8. 8%; and isoniazid, 1.3%. Drug reactions appeared to occur significantly more frequently when the dose of isoniazid or streptomycin was increased and when streptomycin was added to an isoniazid-PAS treatment regimen. The incidence of multiple-drug reactions seemed related more to the number of drugs administered than to the dosage of each drug. The majority of patients intolerant to isoniazid and PAS (including patients with hepatitis) were successfully desensitized. All data in this report were subjected to statistical analysis, and the results are discussed.
