Abstract
The requirements for measurement of crack initiation and propagation are discussed briefly with particular reference to situations of liquid environments where conventional methods are unsuitable.A technique based on measurement of stiffness has been developed to give continuous record of crack length and a knowledge of crack initiation from a fatigue crack propagation test. The data obtained for EN3A mild steel in air and various liquid environment are in agreement with published values. Keywords
